Except that every guild would just make their bases extremely one-sided.
Bad idea.

they would make it unbalanced, like a giant pit of lava, and the only way to get over it safely is with a bridge, with the only switch on the side of the home guild.

Something like this could be fun, but it would be missused very quickly for one-sided wars to the point that its a 50% chance to win based on if your defense or offense.

Maybe have it allow design of only ONE side, and the other side is a reflection of the side designed.
Just my thoughts to your problem.

lol, ya, this could be seriously abused, but, in the right hands, it could be very fun, I'd personally enjoy having it, but I think it shoudl cost more to have a custom GH

On the server side of things... every custom Guild Hall would have to be available on the Guild Wars servers. ANET would not want 10,000+ potentially flawed Guild Halls residing on their server, especially if it could provide an oppurtunity for hackers to get in.
Enemy spawns in a hole, and we rain arrows of death on them. Flawless win... in 30 seconds. >_<

Also, the opposing Guild would have to constantly keep loading and loading new fields and Guilds could never get used to any Fields as everyone's is different, it'd always be the home-based Guild as they know were it's all at and they could add small and secretly hidden passages.
